About image
Writing, like photography, is a key form of expression for me. I have written scientific articles and reviews for many years.

Now that I have retired, I have become more interested in creative writing, and so have written my memoir "Urban Nomad" .  In 1938, my parents escaped from the Nazis in Austria and reached England by a dangerous and tortuous route. I grew up in the north of England, went to medical school in London, specialized in radiology, and later emigrated to the USA. After teaching for ten years at Duke University, my wife and I - together with our two young children - moved to Indianapolis where we now reside. The memoir traces my experiences in many different communities while searching for my personal and religious identity. Finally, I explain how I have come to terms with the Jewish background which I deserted for so many decades.

I have, fortunately, been able to travel widely at home and abroad; these opportunities have played a major part in broadening my horizons and learning to respect how others live. Photography and supporting the performing arts are passions of mine.

I will also be blogging on a regular basis. The blogs may relate to history, religion and culture,  identity or whatever crosses my curious mind at the time. I hope you will enjoy reading them.
